From the early stages of construction to the final site development, material handling is an ongoing task throughout it all. Today’s Safety Saturday moment focuses on handling material properly.
In order to maintain the safety of you and others around you, it’s important to always ensure materials are handled properly at all times. Here are some common hazards to pay attention to when moving materials around:
- Struck by materials caught in or between hazards
- Back injuries due to improper lifting techniques
- Improper rigging setup
Before carrying out a task, think about the risks involved and work out a plan to minimize those risks. Use caution when manually handling materials and always be aware of safe operating techniques when using equipment to handle materials.
Until next time, from all of us at the W. L. French Safety Department, stay safe out there.
