Safety Saturday

Heat Stress

Extreme heat conditions may be beyond our control, but working safely in them is not. Today’s Safety Saturday moment discusses heat stress.

Heat illnesses can affect anyone of any physical condition, age, or whether they’re working inside or out. Heat illness can be brought on by high temperatures, humidity, sun exposure, stale air, physical labor, dehydration, and more. Tolerance to the heat can be built up, but all workers must recognize when heat is present to watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. When working, stay hydrated, take breaks as needed, and seek help for anyone else on the job who is showing signs of heat stress.

Until next time, from all of us at the W. L. French Safety Department, stay safe out there.
