Safety Saturday

High Wind Dangers

High winds are a weather hazard that may not be talked about as frequently, but still pose a threat to workers on construction sites. Today’s Safety Saturday moment talks about working in high winds.

High winds can create hazards such as being struck by an object that’s being blown around, eye injuries caused by flying dust or other particles, dropped loads while completing lifts as well as other objects falling from elevated levels, and even dump truck tip overs. When working in high winds, some protective measures to take include eliminating work tasks altogether if conditions are too windy. Do not try to perform any lifts during high winds, and keep yourself out of the line of fire. Wear the proper PPE, including safety goggles to avoid eye injuries from flying particles.

Until next time, from all of us at the W. L. French Safety Department, stay safe out there.
