Safety Saturday

Importance of Reporting a Near Miss

Happy New Year! We’re starting 2022 the same way we do everything: with safety first and foremost. Our first Safety Saturday of the year goes over the importance of reporting a near miss.

When an accident is narrowly missed on-site, it can be easy to continue on as though nothing happened. However, it’s important to treat near misses with the same severity you would an actual accident. Accidents are preceded by one or more near misses, so reporting near misses when they occur is important so everyone can acknowledge what isn’t working and ensure changes are made for the future. The sooner it’s reported, the sooner the conditions can be corrected, so report to your supervisor immediately. To avoid future near misses: always stay alert to hazards as you work, speak up if you notice someone taking risks, and make the safety of yourself and those around you a priority every day.
