When used correctly, vac trucks can be extremely useful and safe for working around underground utilities. Today’s Safety Saturday moment explains proper vacuum excavation methods.
Just like an excavator, vac trucks have their own unique hazards and maintenance requirements. Hazards include carbon monoxide exposure, exposure to falls, and flying particles. Keep an eye out for overhead power lines, or other obstructions that may limit the work area. When the boom is in motion, keep an eye on its travel path instead of looking down at the ground.
Until next time, from all of us at the W. L. French Safety Department, stay safe out there.
