Safety Saturday Moment

Equipment Blind Spots

When working onsite, heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, and dozers should be respected and avoided. This week’s Safety Saturday discusses how to work safely with heavy equipment and be aware of their blind spots.

There are several blind spots that operators have when they’re moving, so in order to work as safely as possible, you should always assume they can’t see you. You should always keep your distance, but if you need to walk or work near equipment, make sure you make eye contact with the operator to ensure they see you or get their attention by throwing a small rock near the machine’s bucket. Always let the operator know what your plan is, so they know where you’ll be.

Until next week, from all of us at the W. L. French Safety Department, stay safe out there.
