ABC’s of Fall Protection
A – The anchor point is the secure point of attachment. It is commonly known as the “tie off point”.
B – The body harness is the piece of equipment that distributes the forces of the fall across your body. A properly worn harness will keep you upright in the event of a fall. You want the harness snug, but not too tight.
C – The connecting device is what connects the harness to the anchor point. A common device used is the self retracting lifeline. The device operates like the seat belt in a car, it pulls out and retracts easily. Subjected to a quick tug, however, an internal mechanism acts to engage a braking system.
ABC stands for the anchor, the body support and the connecting device.
