Mental Health Awareness
Sometimes, a simple “How are you?” goes a long way. Whether someone is struggling with ongoing mental health issues or just a bad day, checking in with your team members and knowing the signs of mental health issues can keep the individual worker and the team as a whole much safer.
1 in 5 construction workers suffer from anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues. These symptoms can be confusion, lack of motivation, and no desire to be a part of things. This makes it hard to go about daily tasks on site, and the stigma surrounding mental health makes it harder to ask for help.
Meet your team where they are and check in on a regular basis. Ask how they’re doing and if they need help, get them the resources they need. Continuing these conversations is how we get comfortable with them, and it will encourage your team to seek help when they need it and know they aren’t alone.
