HURRICANE SEASON PREPAREDNESS
Hurricanes are not only dangerous, but they can cause major damage due to storm surges, wind damage, and flooding. Storm preparedness can make a big difference in safety and resiliency in the wake of a hurricane. The ability to quickly recover following a hurricane requires a focus on preparedness, advance planning, and knowing what to do in the event of a hurricane.
Be sure to stay informed by receiving alerts, warnings, and new announcements. Know your zone, be prepared, and have an evacuation plan in place. Have an emergency kit ready to go. Prepare for possible power outages, ensure your smoke and CO detectors are working. Prepare your home, secure outdoor objects, and prepare for flooding. After a storm comes through, continue to monitor the media for information. Stay away from downed power lines. Stay away from flooded roads. Don’t drive through flooded roads. Cars can be swept away in just two feet of moving water. Check your home for damage. If flooding occurred, take steps to prevent and detect mold.
As with every hurricane season regardless of the forecast, knowing the essentials of how to prepare could truly be a lifesaver.
