Understanding Safety Data Sheets
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) is an important component of the Hazard Communication Standard. They are intended to provide information about specific substances or mixtures. They are used as a source of information about hazards, including environmental hazards, and to obtain advice on safety precautions.
Product Identifier– gives a name or number that enables you to identify the chemical.
Supplier Information– tells you the manufacturer, importer, or other responsible parties’ information.
Precautionary Statements– recommended measures to minimize or prevent injury or illness due to exposure.
In Case of Fire– how to extinguish it.
Hazard Pictograms– conveys specific information by using symbols or graphics.
Signal Word– indicates the severity of the hazard.
Hazard Statement- describes the nature of the hazard.
Supplemental Information– directions for use, fill date, expiration date, etc.
